Few high lights - there are no beggars in the villages. Beggars only exist in cities or perhaps in towns. Due to lack of any visionary leader or leadership Caste, Religion or Regionalism plays a role while voting. The majority of voting population trusts no politicians or political parties.
There is wide spread poverty and desire to come out of it but there is no real will or strategy to come out of it either by the poor or by the state.
Education is now seen important by and large by every strata of society. However there is an irony here. Uneducated unemployed rate is only roughly 3.5% but educated unemployed is almost 30%. Every body worth a salt has smart mobile but largely - except the students - its use is limited to entertainment and not to acquire new knowledge.
It’s very difficult to teach farmers new and improved ways of farming. Even with lower productivity and lower returns farmers simply refuse to learn new ways. They believe their methods handed down since generations is the best. With 60% of population directly or indirectly employed in agriculture sector contributing only around 14% to GDP this is the real issue. However, the agricultural land prices in rural India has increased manifold. We are still dependent on monsoon for good harvest. Even in areas where ground water is available much easily… farmers don’t use the same. Possibly high cost of fuel to run pump-sets is the reason.
Migration of population from poorer states is not an issue. People those who migrate as farm labour send decent amount of money home. They are happy living in hostel kind of atmosphere in places like Punjab and Haryana. But the migrated labour those who live isolated in other cities hardly save anything to send money back to their family in villages.
Politically… when spoken individually… then every one is sick and tired of present ways of politics and governance and every body wishes to see a new face and fresh set of ideas but no one is ready to take the first step.
Labour in the cities are deeply exploited lot working 10 to 12 hrs shift without medical or pension. All major corporates have switched to contract appointments for their balance-sheet to improve and it’s bottom line but no one is thinking about the poor man who has to work 16 hr just to make ends meet.
To summarise… lack of visionary leadership which takes us away from conversation on caste, religion or region and lack of direct connect of the society to power to be leaves much to be desired. There is no wholesome, cohesive and concrete far reaching idea which can negotiate, navigate the post liberalised India to deal with its gain and fallout.
Regrettably… no political party or corporate sector or think tanks or social sector is aware of every facets or outcome of the liberalised India… this is alarming. The sum total is that each decision maker live on day to day basis confined to the specific sphere or area of interest or as thrusted upon by design or destiny. No one and one repeats… no one… wants to step outside their comfort zone to learn where our population, living across the length and breath of our country, is going or facing or will reach with the current state of affairs in 5 or 10 or 20 or 50 yrs from present.
